Let's get right into it;
I was in a conversation not too long ago, I'm starting to think I talk alot, and I was taken down memory lane to a point when I was in boarding school. At this point I was in one of my junior years, grade 9 or 10, I'm not too sure which between the 2 it was. What I do remember vividly was the location and the lesson learnt that is the highlight of this post.Let me elaborate;
It was a Saturday night after entertainment. I remember this because I always dreaded the girl's meetings which had to take place so late after the night's program and whose content never quite differed from the last. It was always graced with the same; threats if we broke the set rules, new rules especially on dress code, cleaning portion allocations, that I at another point too enforced, plus we had to be up early to work on our allocated portions the next day. The only pro was it was only held once every term.
I'm sure the guys I schooled with are now psyched that they get to hear what we used to talk about in those meetings😂.
Let me quickly get to the point of interest;
This very Saturday, there was yet another new rule on female dress code that was passed when a then random junior objected saying it wasn't fair because the female prefects never abided by the very dress code rules which we felt burdened by. So In the blue corner some random grade 10 I can hardly remember and in the red corner some random prefect.
In response the prefect's words exactly were," If you want to copy what I do copy everything starting with my red tie."
* Just for clarity the prefects wore red ties and the rest's differed per grade.
After quoting that well I'm pretty sure those weren't her exact words.
Her words though were In context of emulating her privilege aswell as imitating her responsibility.
I know I know don't get technical with me there's an aspect of leadership where you're supposed to lead by example, serve the people you lead, ...
My interest however is in wanting certain privileges that come with certain ventures in line with careers, positions and relations neglecting the responsibility it carries.
Whatever it is you want/admire, are you willing take up the responsibility it carries and not only its benefits?
Honestly hold a self introspection, at the point and place you're in can you handle what you're asking for?
In a time when it's so easy to know what's going on with those around us far and wide. Comparing is sometimes our drag but sometimes it's hard to help it;
A pal is driving, I want to drive too
Some friend of a friend launched a business which is taking off, I want a booming business too.
He recently went to university, I...
She graduated, I...
He landed a dream job, I...
The list is endless...
Let me not lie I have days when that does cross my mind but what I have to keep telling myself is the people in those places have had to make some serious sacrifices, have had so many down days and still have weighty responsibility as result so If I want to get there I have to trust the process of timing with its dose of blood, sweat and tears.
Likened to growing a tree; you keep watering the seed which mind you is buried, you can't see it changing and adapting to being a tree, but you keep watering with expectations of it shooting.
You may eye yards with oak trees, baobab trees, some with even guava trees but you don't have to stop watering yours because you can't see the shoot yet.
*Your struggles help you appreciate what you have worked for.
In the same vein I've found totally evading or draining your all admiring or turning to hating on those thriving has a quick fix, sometimes all it takes is a simple chat with the one(s) behind the success.
I've found I love biographies for that reason. It's a story of a figure I see with the accolades and I get to live abit of their 'behind the scenes'.
If you have a role model in line with the path you're headed towards; organize a chat with them, read about them.
It could teach you a thing or two to help you get there and beyond.
Thank you for reaching this far. I hope you enjoyed this post. If so like, comment and share. Until the next post stay safe and don't forget to pick up the responsibility of your admirations.

Why compare when you are born to be unique?? Great post, I like your affinity for the "behind-the-scenes" its really admirable. Also your watercolor paintings are fire (no pun intended) ;)
