Through the ages we have gained so much experience in regarding good and evil, who deserves a second chance and those who need to be damned, who should be saved over the other and on the judgement runs. Quite the experience for the job to be the judge so I accord you the chance, take a seat and be the judge.
A story is told of a man and his son who worked at the busiest railway company of his city. Of the father's many tasks one vital job was to close the track of the rail to complete it so the train carrying thousands heading to work, visiting the city for the first time and even the kids excited to tell their parent of the new friend they made or the school trip coming up among the many others could get there.
Day in and day out, train after train the father pulled the lever which turned the sprockets to pull the tracks in place, completing the tracks and the busy train got where it had to unbeknown to its passengers.
On another day, not too different from the previous, the son was on duty oiling and replacing some parts of the machine that aided pulling the train tracks in place. The next train was set for 09.50 but the son having had a late night affair the night prior went to get the job done way after his scheduled time.
The next train housing a man escaping the city from a murder scene, a kid battling cancer, a ruthless school bully, an abusive husband, a pregnant high school teacher, a woman who stole from work, the father's other son, a drug addict, among the many each have their destination time at 10.00.
At 09.49, the father walks to the lever ready to close the tracks when he hears his son cry out to him to give him a minute to leave the machine.
"Hurry the train's coming," the father beckoned.
Rushingly the son placed the repaired part in place and turned on the machine. Sliding through to leave his leg got trapped.
"I'm stuck dad give me a hand," the son cried out as the train's chiming could be heard closely.
Who should be saved?
I don't know who you would choose in this case and on what basis you would do so if you even dared to pick but I did so to help you appreciate choice and the stance of any father/parent hence understanding our Father better.
Each valued a choice, we all triumph aswell as fall, honestly are we any better than the next person?
But I'm particularly delighted that He is especially fond of me equally as he is you that I'm neither picked to be saved or damned instead of... but he took my place. Not justly or because I earned it but for the value of love.
Through my dusty and failing sight she came to light. Frail, head bowed seated in the sand as she engraved her flaws onto her skin and wrote her blessings in the sand.
Now I see her in His eyes. Worthy, loved, beautiful, purposeful and especially fond of.
Downplaying her dreams for fear of failure, pursuits of love and acceptance, her social skills that could be better, her not so 'prestigious' course pursuit, struggles with consistency, her flaws, her worries and shortcomings all fade from her skin.
She no longer uses her criteria of judgement of what is valued or not but His.
No longer living to get to the next day but to live her life fully.
"I am especially fond you," He says, " I have not yet found one I am not especially fond of."
